Android is a complete, open and free mobile platform developed by the open handset alliance project. This mobile platform is a software stack available for mobile devices including an operating system, middleware and key applications. Android offers easy access to a wide range of functional libraries and tools for developing rich applications.
The Android Market acts as the open distribution channel where developers can help users to have their applications on Android phones.
VOXOFON (News - Alert) has been offering a collection of options specially created for economic international calling. Their tariff begins as low as 1.3 cents per minute, with no additional fees. VOXOFON customers can make calls using their computer, their land line, their cell phone or a smartphone, such as the G1 or iPhone (News - Alert), for which the company also offers a special application.
VOXOFON applications work on both Windows and Linux systems with Java runtime installed. Additionally, for calling card users, VOXOFON customers can use their accounts as virtual calling cards. All these services are available under a single account, thus providing customers with flexibility and convenience.
With the latest announcement, users can make international calls by just installing the VOXOFON application and then they can place calls as usual using the phone's dialer or contacts. Soon after the call is detected, the VOXOFON window pops up, listing options and rates. In addition, VOXOFON needs does not require to be in a WiFi (News - Alert) zone and it functions wherever there is mobile phone coverage.
"At present, most people who own mobile phones still make international calls via landlines, calling cards or computer VoIP services," said Alexey Goloshubin, president and chief executive officer of VOXOFON
"With inexpensive and easy-to-use options such as VOXOFON's Android application, we expect an increasing number of people to use their mobile phones for calls abroad. It's much more convenient," added Goloshubin.
Goloshubin believe this option is a great chance for all international callers since they are offered affordable calling rates by using their mobile phones.
VOXOFON's Web site, www.voxofon.com, has a detailed note on the new application and also has a short video clip showing how to use the service. Moreover, all G1 phone users can download the VOXOFON application on the device by clicking on the "Market" icon for a list of Android applications.
